This mystical cave has ‘two eyes’ of water: one clear blue for snorkelling, and one deep and darker for scuba diving. And you may well think so too at Dos Ojos. Ancient Mayans believed these water-filled sinkholes to be portals to the underworld. Nearby you’ll find some of the Yucatán’s most spectacular cenotes. Tulum sits on the edge of the jungle – and there are plenty of natural treasures to discover in the tangled interior. For somewhere quieter, venture into the jungle to Cobá, where the trees have began to take root in the towering pyramids. This spectacular site is worth a few hours exploration, although it does draw day-trippers from up and down the Riviera Maya. One monument stands out in Tulum – the majestic ruins of a Mayan seaport, perched on a rocky cliff above white sand and cobalt sea. Tulum is bordered by colourful coral reefs, with the chance to see everything from sea turtles to leopard sharks. For a different perspective on the coast, hop aboard a boat out to a dive site. Settle in at a beachfront bar for some celeb spotting over fruit smoothies or fresh sugar cane mojitos. Recommended for families but also a really great destination for couples. The powder-fine beaches of Tulum, dotted with palapas and daybeds, are the places to see and be seen. All in all our stay was very satisfying and left us wanting to return sooner than later. The beach area was very lively and sometimes a bit crowded with non-guests but the hotel tried its best to accommodate guests as needed. Bread, yoghurt, simple condiments and fruit/vegetables would be all you would need. I would suggest the hotel set up a simple buffet to complement its (Admittedly very good) breakfast menu. One time, we had to wait over an hour for breakfast. In paradise, this is usually fine, but breakfast, in particular should not be this slow. The restaurant has fantastic food (Taco Thursday is awesome!) but the service is slow and sometimes disinterested. We were celebrating two birthdays and the hotel made an effort to help us making them memorable. The hotel was very accommodating with changes we needed during the booking period and the staff at the front desk were perfect in every way, very engaged in everything we needed and more than willing to help. The plunge pool can be warmed up upon request. The beds are comfortable and the outside area spectacular. The rooms were very nicely set up and could easily accommodate even a group of four (relatively close) adults. Both rooms (Numbers 20 (garden) and 9(sea view)) were perfect, nicely located right on the beach but still set back to allow some privacy. We tried two different rooms, both on the ground floors with plunge pools. We stayed at La Zebra with our two kids and one infant. I love La Zebra and plan to have many more memories to come here!!!!!!!! We plan to rest/relax beachfront or poolside, ride bikes, visit Tulum ruins, run, maybe a tiny bit of yoga, biosphere or Cenotes if time allows. I want to give a particular shoutout to Laura, Marbel, and Chef Eleazar Bonilla who all worked really close to me and made sure everything I needed was handled which made the group trip 100x easier and stress free on my end. Just me and my husband for my 40th birthday. We had some crazy requests of things we wanted to make happen (Top Chef competition,piñata on the beach, moving an entire dinner party inside when it rained, dropping gifts to the room each night, etc.) and they didn’t skip a beat to make sure it happened on time and exactly how I wanted it. They even went so far as to remember everyone’s name and greet as such. They didn’t let us go a moment without a drink in our hand or asking if we needed anything. We had a group stay here and take up the entire hotel and every single person that stayed has nothing but incredible reviews of the staff here. They would get on calls with us up to once a week for multiple months and basically whatever we asked for the answer was yes. From the start Laura and her team were amazing. I help plan our company incentive trip and we decided on La Zebra.
